San Luis is a province of Argentina, which is located in the center of the country. I have traveled twice, and both times in July. during Argentina winter holidays .Once I went to Merlo and another to San Luis capital. The first time I visited San Luis  I travelled with my friend Gaby by plane to Córdoba. There we rented a car and did the traslasierra circuit, each town is wonderful and has its charm. The ones I liked the most were Yacanto and San Javier. During this journey we visited the Sierra Pura olive oil factory. We went to Merlo. The city is very well prepared to receive tourists  all year and offers many options, especially for adventurers. What we liked to do the most is Cerro Áspero , Pueblo Escondido. Pueblo Escondido is an abandoned place, which was a mining center from 1895 to 1969.

It is approximately 20 km from Merlo. It is a complicated road so it is convenient to do it in an all-terrain vehicle. We hired a full-day tour. It looks like a ghost town and touring it was like traveling back in time. To get there we ride horses for several hours up to the mountain, which has incredible colors. When we got there we had to cross a suspension bridge, like the ones in Indiana Jones’ movies, it was really fun. An area of one of the old houses was chosen and  prepared  to spend the night. It must be reserved in advance since there are few beds for adventurers. There was also a kitchen for us (the whole group that arrived on horseback) where they prepared some delicious homemade bread sandwiches. There are some tunnels that you can explore and produce a lot of adrenaline just going  through them. People can do some trekking to  those tunnels. I have to admit that I loved getting there on horseback.

San Luis offers you the possibility of appreciating different landscapes and colors such as white for its salt flats, brown, orange and yellow for its forests, especially in autumn. Do you know that there are salt flats in San Luis? They are not as huge as the Salinas Grandes, but they are worth exploring. Public transport does not get that far so you will need your own ride.

The second time I visited San Luis capital was with Orne and her family in her car.

 Carolina, a very colonial mining town, stole my heart with its cobbled streets and little houses that have been built with the same stone as the hills. The mine had its golden years at the time of the gold rush.

A tourist agency called Las Huellas is mainly dedicated to offer tours to the mine. La Carolina has been chosen as one of the Authentic Towns of the country.
